What Are Comfort Fit Wedding Bands?

Ring Advice

Jewelry shopping can be intimidating. That’s why we started Ask Holden, our blog where we answer your FAQs, break down scary industry lingo, and guide you in finding the perfect piece of jewelry.

One thing we’re frequently asked about Holden wedding rings is - what exactly does comfort fit mean, anyway? Well look no further, because today we will be answering that question.

When we design our rings, we want to create something that you’ll be comfortable wearing every day for the rest of your life. There’s nothing worse than a ring that chafes or scratches you when it’s supposed to represent a symbol of your undying love!

We want your ring to become part of you, to the point that you aren’t even aware of its presence on your finger. Only when you look down at it to admire it (which, with a Holden ring, we can assure you will probably be a *frequent* occurrence) will you be reminded you’re wearing a ring at all.

Keep in mind, when we say comfort fit, this means the style in which the ring is made, so it sits more comfortably on your finger - not whether or not the ring is the correct size for you! All rings, whether they’re comfort fit bands or standard fit, should be sized properly for your finger. If you’re not sure what ring size you are, feel free to sign up for one of our free ring size kits so you can determine the perfect fit.

Standard Fit vs Comfort Fit Graphic

Standard Fit vs Comfort Fit Wedding Bands

Standard Fit: Standard fit wedding rings are bands with completely flat interiors. There is no curve, the metal cuts straight across your finger, and the diameter of the ring remains consistent throughout the interior of the ring.

Comfort Fit: A comfort fit wedding band is slightly rounded on the interior of the ring, meaning that it slides more easily over your finger (particularly your knuckle). The ring is slightly wider in the middle than on either edge. This slight interior doming makes the ring more - for lack of a better term - comfortable to take on and off, and it is more comfortable as the ring moves slightly while on your finger.

For some jewelers, comfort fit rings can be sized up slightly, so they recommend sizing approximately a half size below what your ring finger typically would be. Here at Holden, all of our rings are comfort fit, which is taken into account in our sizing, so you can confidently choose your correct size and know that it will fit your finger perfectly. There's no need to size up or down!

It’s also helpful to note - we offer free resizing for life on all of our rings. If your finger size happens to change for one reason or another, we will give you a complimentary resizing once every year. And yes, that includes free shipping ;).

So why should I choose comfort fit?

Because we want to make you comfortable! Here at Holden, we want to make the wedding ring shopping experience as painless as possible, and that includes making the wedding ring wearing experience as painless as possible.

The differences between comfort and standard fit rings are so miniscule it’s hardly discernible to the naked eye, so at the end of the day, it’s really about prioritizing your personal experience (and comfort). If you have any more questions about fit, or happen to prefer the standard fit (we can definitely accommodate), please feel free to reach out to us at help@hiholden.com, and we’d be happy to put you in touch with one of our designers.
