To Have and to Holden is our series where we interview real couples about their romance, weddings, and whatever else comes up along the way. Enjoy!
Jet-setting Beau and Jason recently had the proposal of everyone's dreams - in beautiful Santorini. With a love story that started "in the air," it's no wonder that they decided on a destination wedding. They chose The Hammered and The Channel Baguette for their engagement rings.
How did you meet and start dating?
Jason and I met while training to become flight attendants for a major US airline. Our last names are close alphabetically, so we lucked out and were placed in the same working group together. Our group as a whole turned out to be extra special and we made really great friends. We made it through training and were assigned Chicago as a home base so we ended up renting a house with a handful of other brand-new flight attendants. We started officially dating about 3 months later.
How did you get engaged?
We had been discussing engagement and marriage for a while and we finally made decisions on a timeline and how we each hoped it might happen. It is kind of fun to be in a situation where either one of us can do the proposing. We planned a vacation to Santorini, Greece. While packing, Jason informed me we had evening plans on our second night on the island and that I needed a nice outfit. I freaked out: all I had packed were sandals, a speedo, and oversized beach shirts! Jason had a photographer (Kimon) as well as a beautiful picnic set-up for us on the side of the caldera, at a tiny Greek church at sunset. It was perfect.
What are you most looking forward to about your wedding and being a married couple?
We are most looking forward to getting to celebrate with our loved ones, dancing (probably badly), and a honeymoon trip! Being a married couple, the added depth of commitment and beauty that comes with marriage, and continuing to grow together.
What was important to you in choosing a ring? What made you choose Holden?
We both felt it was important to choose a wedding ring maker that was making rings for us, and for others like us. We really loved the mix of feminine and masculine looks of so many of Holden's styles. We were especially drawn to the lab-grown diamonds and recycled metals.
What does love mean to you?
One of the most beautiful weddings I have ever attended was officiated by the bride’s brother and he gave the most moving message: “We have a picture in our minds of what our spouse will look like and who our spouse will be in 10 or 15 or 50 years. Sometime in the future, when our spouse has turned out nothing like the picture in our head, we will have a choice. Do you rip up your spouse or do you rip up the picture? Love is ripping up the picture.”
