To Have and to Holden is our series where we interview real couples about their romance, weddings, and whatever else comes up along the way. Enjoy!
Caitlin and Nick are an Illinois-based couple who planned to marry on May 1st of this year. Due to COVID-19, they quickly pivoted, celebrating with each other in person - and their families and friends via Zoom! Caitlin wore our Full Eternity Profile. Read on to hear their sweet love story!
How did you meet and start dating? How did you get engaged?
We met through Tinder! It shows that you never know who you’ll find! We got engaged the day Nick bought his first house: May 1, 2018. When we got to the front door, he told me, “I have two keys in my hand: one is the key to the house, the other is the key to my heart!” He had a ring on a keychain that stated “Wanna be hubby wifey?” When he asked me to be his girlfriend, he said “Wanna be boyfriend girlfriend?” I was totally caught off guard - I was hangry and he was so flustered, he never really asked the question but let the keychain do all the talking!
Could you tell us about your decision to get married now, rather than postponing your wedding?
We decided to get married now because we had already been engaged for two years and didn't want to delay our future together any longer. We kept waiting for everything to fall into place but realized there never will be a perfect time!
What’s a moment from your wedding day that you’ll remember forever?
Caitlin
I will forever remember walking towards him for the first look when his back was turned.
Nick
I will always remember the anticipation of the first look - I was waiting to hear the 4 wheeler pull up.
Caitlin
I was riding on it so I wouldn't ruin my dress walking through the grass!
Nick
And then turning around to see how beautiful my bride looked.
What was important to you in choosing a ring? What made you choose Holden?
We were looking for something affordable, simple, and classic that would match my engagement ring. It’s 18k white gold, and I never thought it would be so hard to find something that matched! We are so grateful for Holden and even ordered another band to make the set symmetrical!
What does love mean to you?
To us, love means being there for each other, no matter what comes up in life. Through ups and downs and even life changes, we know we will support each other. Love means growing together, cherishing who each other is and what we have built together.
