The Best Ring For Your Love Language

Ring Advice

Jewelry shopping can be intimidating. That’s why we started Ask Holden, our blog where we answer your FAQs, break down scary industry lingo, and guide you in finding the perfect piece of jewelry.

To give you some ring inspiration, we've made some handy suggestion lists over the years. Into astrology? Find out the best ring for your zodiac sign. More of a personality test type? We've got the perfect ring for you based on your Myers-Briggs sign. We've even got ring suggestions based on your favorite flower.

Since we are a ring company and constantly have "love on the brain" (please, Rihanna, we're ready for a new album!), we thought it made sense for our next pairing suggestion to be love themed. So without (much) further fanfare, we bring you: the best ring for your love language.

What is a Love Language?

According to Dr. Gary Chapman (whose book about love languages has sold 20 million copies and remained on the NYT bestseller list for 15 years!), there are five primary ways in which we give and receive love: physical touch, quality time, receiving gifts, acts of service, and words of affirmation. While all five of these are important to all of us in varying degrees, most people have some that mean more to them than others.

Not sure what your love language is? Take the official Love Language Quiz to find out (or you could consult your partner – there’s a chance they’ll have a pretty good sense!).

If you and your partner are getting ready to walk down the aisle, chances are you love each other for those little ways you express and receive love. So why not wear a wedding ring that represents and celebrates your love language? Another fun idea is choosing a ring that matches your partner’s love language - wearing a daily reminder of how you can show up for them every day is very romantic!

Physical Touch - The HammeredPhysical Touch - The Hammered

If your primary love language is physical touch, it’s important to you that your partner uses touch to show you they love you. Think holding hands in public, cuddling on the couch, or even a little pat on the head as they walk past your desk while you’re working from home.

We chose The Hammered to represent physical touch because it takes many, many touches to make this unique ring. Every ring is hammered by hand, so no two rings are ever the same! Run your fingers over a ring made and hammered just for you.

Quality Time - The Full EternityQuality Time - The Full Eternity

If quality time is your love language, you like your partner to demonstrate their love by spending time together. Date nights can be anywhere as long as you’re spending them together (and you can get your partner’s undivided attention).

As someone who values spending quality time with your partner, you can’t get enough togetherness. Enter: The Full Eternity (when half an eternity just won’t cut it). You never have to say goodbye to your partner when you promise them an eternity of time spent together.

Acts of Service - The Royal FlushActs of Service - The Royal Flush

If your love language is acts of service, you love it when your partner does small things for you, particularly when you’re feeling overwhelmed. Acts of service can be a range of things, like watering someone’s plants, doing their dishes, filling their gas tank, or picking them up at the airport.

You feel loved when your partner does small tasks to make your life easier. In other words, your partner makes you feel like royalty! Enter: The Royal Flush. Dotted with diamonds, this is the perfect ring to remind you how special your partner makes you feel.

Receiving Gifts - The Full Column BaguetteReceiving Gifts - The Full Column Baguette

Receiving gifts is an oft-misperceived love language - despite what some people assume, it’s not about being greedy and demanding your partner spends all their money on you! Instead, you feel special when your partner comes up with thoughtful gift ideas, so you have tangible reminders of how they feel about you.

Because you feel loved when your partner gives you thoughtful gifts, you can’t go wrong when picking a ring! Make an appointment together to look at rings and really listen to their opinion. If you’re able to, consider buying your partner’s ring for them and have them purchase yours for you. When you look down at your wedding ring, you’ll know that they picked out your ring and bought it especially for you.

Any gift from your loved one is the perfect gift, but we love The Full Column Baguette because it’s eye-catching and drenched in diamonds. At the end of the day any gifted ring will be perfect - and there’s no harm in showing your partner which rings you like best in order to give them a hint!

Words of Affirmation - The Line

Words of Affirmation - The Line

If words of affirmation is your love language, you appreciate it when your partner expresses their love for you verbally. For you, it’s important that you receive proof of your love through what your partner says. In other words (no pun intended), it’s all about hearing the lines that make you feel loved. Consider The Line for that very reason!

If words of affirmation is your preferred way of receiving love, consider engraving your ring with a special note so you can constantly be reminded of your partner’s love. You could even ask them to secretly pick out an engraving for your ring and then promise not to look until your wedding day!
